What is ToolsofMM.org?

Launched in August of 2024, this website is a public venue for me to share the data sets, in-class activities, assignments and projects I have developed after teaching an introductory math modeling class to future math teachers for more than 20 years.

I have collected all those materials into a textbook that you may use freely. Videos supplement the written material and are available on my YouTube channel. Data sets and other files can be downloaded for your own use. They accompany each section. Check out the textbook here.

Thank you to Emporia State University and its CRAIG grant for supporting my efforts to write this textbook and create this website.

A collection of math modeling resources
A place for collaboration

This site is for teachers who want to use math modeling in their classes or those who teach an introductory math modeling class for future teachers. My hope is to grow a collection of estimation teaser videos and modeling project ideas that reflect the global flavor of mathematical modeling.

I am based in Emporia, Kansas, so my contributions will reflect that. But teachers from around the world are welcome to join the conversation.

Each fall, I plan to organize a challenge for participating schools and universities to solve a specific modeling problem. Unlike the MCM, this is not a competition. Instead, we will work together to understand a specific question, preferably from a global perspective. Check out this year's challenge!
